The Maritime UK Solent Awards celebrate the region’s outstanding maritime sector and the people who drive it to be a world-leading regional industry.

Showcase your people and your organisation
If you are intending to apply for any of the 13 different categories in the Maritime UK Solent Awards 2024 – watch this short film produced by Lorna Wagner, Programme Manager, and Amelia Gould, Board member, for tips on making your application the best it could possibly be.
The application form allows you to save your submission and return to it, so you can see all the sections you’ll need to complete before you start.
The deadline date for applications is 28 July.
CATEGORIES AND APPLYING

Please feel free to apply for as many different categories from the 13 available – however please be aware, only one application per organisation can be made for any single category.
For every category, the judges are looking for a great individual, process or business. Those who provide the most substantiated evidence will always rank more highly in the final reckoning.
Before applying for any of these categories, please be aware that the person or organisation that is nominated must work within the Solent region, (see map here)

Nominations for this Award are made by employers / sponsoring companies / colleges, maritime schools or training providers for apprentices or cadets who have made a positive impact on their organisation. This category is for all apprentices or cadets in the maritime sector, regardless of which apprenticeship or cadetship pathway they are following – for apprentices this does not have to be a traditional marine or maritime framework.
N.B. The nominated apprentice or cadet must either be:
- currently on programme,
- or they have received their End of Point Assessment Certificate/Officer of the Watch Certificate between 1 August 2023 and 31 July 2024.
Any nominees who do not fit within the stated time parameters will not be considered.
This is an award for an individual, business or organisation based in the Solent which has developed, tested or operated new technologies that have made, or have the potential to make, a significant contribution to a lower carbon maritime sector.
They will evidence this through demonstrating developments and strategies around innovation which will enable the transition to a low carbon future.
Open to a business, charity or organisation of any size, this award recognises those that have made a tangible contribution to meeting the future skills needs of the Solent’s maritime sector. The winner will be delivering pioneering staff development or educational course activity to help match available skills to the emerging and future requirements of the sector. Applicants may be businesses or education providers.
This is an award for a Solent-based maritime business or organisation, that is actively involved in international trade and who have significantly increased import/export activity or attracted Foreign Direct Investment over the past two years.
This award is open to maritime businesses based in the Solent that have over 250 employees. This is your opportunity to showcase how great your large business is and what you have achieved over the past few years. You may have grown rapidly, pivoted your operation to safeguard your future or explore an opportunity, invested in workforce development, improved sustainability, or secured key new contracts. Tell us your story. Applications that can strengthen their story with numbers (e.g. new job, turnover growth, numbers trained etc) will be favoured.
Before completing this application, please be aware that you and the person who you are nominating will be required to attend one of the following dates for judging interviews if you are shortlisted: 10 September, 11 September, 12 September.
This will be awarded to an individual who has made a significant impact to the strength of the Solent Maritime Sector, leaving a legacy.
In this category, individuals must be nominated and cannot self-apply.
This award is open to maritime businesses based in the Solent that have up to 250 employees. This is your opportunity to showcase how great your small business is and what you have achieved over the past few years. You may have grown rapidly, pivoted your operation to safeguard your future or explore an opportunity, invested in workforce development, improved sustainability, or secured key new contracts. Tell us your story. Applications that can strengthen their story with numbers (e.g. new job, turnover growth) will be favoured.
To be eligible for this award, entrants must:
• Have started to trade no earlier than three years from the date of entry.
• Be ‘independently owned’. This is defined as a business that is substantially owned by its founders and/or a group of independent investors, is not quoted on the stock market or any other stock market; and is not a subsidiary or associated company of another business.
• Be a maritime business, or in the supply chain, and based in the Solent.
The Sustainability Leadership category is open to individuals or organisations that can demonstrate the type of leadership that drives solutions for environmental, social and economic challenges in maritime. It recognises leadership as a process of influence and action and breaks down silos to combine efforts towards change and transformation.
This is an award for a maritime business or organisation who are leading the way in new technology that will be ‘game-changing’ in the maritime sector. This will be through embracing new technologies to create new products, processes or practises. Applications that can demonstrate the use of novel technologies to respond to industry challenges will be favoured.
