Maritime UK Solent seeks new board members for its ambitious new era

Maritime UK Solent has announced that it is seeking visionary industry experts to join its board as a Non-Executive Director. 

These voluntary roles require dynamic individuals from the private sector, who are backed by a proven track record of leadership within the maritime SME (small and medium sized enterprise) community and/or the marine sector, with expertise in Maritime innovation or Green Shipping. 

Bringing a collaborative approach and strong partnership skills to the table, the candidates will play a significant role in fostering relationships and leading efforts to expand and elevate the Solent maritime economy. Candidates must be able to dedicate one day a month to board duties. 

Anne-Marie Mountifield, Chair of Maritime UK Solent, commented: “The maritime sector contributes around 25% of the total economic output of the Solent economy and is undoubtedly our core sector. Our ambition is for the Solent to be recognised globally for maritime excellence, enabling maritime businesses and organisations operating in the region to benefit from the Solent brand and make us the first choice for maritime investment and collaboration.” 

“The opportunity to join the board comes at an exciting time for us, following the Government’s latest commitment of a £1m fund to support the development of maritime cluster organisations, such as ours. First launched in 2019, the industry-led body has established itself as the voice of the maritime sector in the region generates £7.7bn of economic output and is a key contributor to the UK’s maritime excellence. Operating within the family of Maritime UK (the collective voice for the UK’s maritime

industries), the organisation enables the Solent maritime sector to directly influence national maritime decision-making and leadership while providing a direct route to Government. 

Maritime UK Solent also champions Solent success on a global scale, championing the breadth of maritime excellence that resides in the Solent, with world-leading capabilities across Ports and Shipping, Maritime Defence, Training, Academia and Research, Shipbuilding, Leisure Marine, Heritage and Tourism, Professional Services, and Regulation.
