Solent’s careers leaders invited to sign up for Maritime Mondays for sector insights

Careers advisers and teachers from the Solent’s secondary schools and colleges are invited to sign up for Maritime Mondays to discover how the region’s world-class maritime sector can deliver career opportunities for their students.

Maritime UK Solent and the Solent Careers Hub are putting the focus on Maritime Continuous Professional Development (CPD) at events to be held at Carnival UK on 18 March and Associated British Ports (ABP) on 25 March.

Anne-Marie Mountifield, Chair of Maritime UK Solent, said: “The Solent’s thriving maritime sector provides outstanding opportunities for young people seeking careers in this growth area.

“Over the period to 2025, the marine and maritime sector in the Solent region is forecast to grow by at least 5%. Fuelled by innovation and disruptive technologies, the sector is at the forefront of confronting the key issues of our time – including decarbonisation and security, charting the course for a brighter future.  We want our young people to be at the forefront of this change.

“Maritime Mondays aim to provide an insight into the Solent’s maritime industry and enable teachers and careers leaders to learn about the breadth of roles in the maritime sector and the pathways open to students considering an exciting career in the maritime sector.

“I wholeheartedly encourage those who influence the Solent’s young people on the career opportunities right here in the Solent, to register on the MUK Solent website to secure a place and support the region’s next generation in finding a fulfilling future.”

Previous successful Maritime Mondays were held in Portsmouth and included a session at the award-winning Portsmouth International Port. These Southampton-based sessions will be held at Carnival UK headquarters, on 18 March and at the Port of Southampton , owned and operated by Associated British Ports (ABP), on 25 March.

It’s an opportunity to learn more about the cruise industry and careers with Carnival UK, plus roles in affiliated businesses at sea and shore-side. Delegates can also discover more about leisure marine, including yacht design, building and Naval architecture. There will also be information on cadet opportunities at Brockenhurst College and Warsash Maritime School.

During the ABP event, attendees can discover more about the port operations and career opportunities, both on the water and land. In addition to speakers from ABP, there will be representatives from Solent Stevedores, Meachers Global Logistics, Williams Shipping and the Seawork Trade Show, available to discuss career opportunities and pathways.
